Notes for Trips

SVCC run a variety of river trips to accommodate those on their first moving water trip, to those wanting grade 3-4 knuckle whitening epics.

We ask that those attending trips are competent to do so and for beginner/introductory trips it is suggested that individuals are working towards the BCU 2* syllabus in kayak (or open canoe if applicable) and can manoeuvre their kayaks effectively and can perform a capsize with a spray deck.

Higher graded trips will be at the discretion of the trip organiser based on the number of members wishing to attend and their perceived skill levels.

Trips - Spring 2013

White Water Trips

'Scheduled' white water trips for club members are generally run on Sundays, though occasionally on Saturdays instead.

The following trips are currently in the planning stage. Please be aware that weather and other circumstances can make these liable to change so please maintain contact with the trip organiser.

• The Oxford area trip planned for Easter Monday has been postponed due to the cold conditions.  Rearranged date will be publicised once the temperature warms up!

Sea Kayaking

Depending on weather and people's availability, there could be sea kayak trips at short notice during the coming weeks.  For more information, or if interested in being contacted if an opportunity arises, please contact Dave Thomas on 01453 860047.

SVCC Organised Courses

From time to time SVCC organise training for club members that cannot be provided by club coaches.

• Foundation Safety and Rescue Training - Paul Gibson runs BCU Foundation Safety and Rescue Training courses in conjunction with Thameswey Canoe Club at £28 per head plus BCU registration fees (£5 BCU members, £10 non-members). Please contact Paul by email for more information.

The plan is a circular trip (no time-wasting shuttles!) of around 8 miles - with some help from the current over the first half - starting and finishing at Wolvercote (near where the A40 meets the Oxford ring road).  We'll paddle down the Thames past Port Meadow (with views across to the 'Dreaming Spires' skyline of Oxford) and, after a pub lunch at 'The Punter' on the outskirts of the city centre, return along the Oxford Canal.
